The Polish team, thanks to the win against Saudi Arabia, has four points. This means they remain in the fight to reach the knockout stages of the World Cup in Qatar. Results in the Group C so far also give the rivals of the White-Reds a chance to leave the group. We have looked at the qualification scenarios of Czesław Michniewicz’s Polish side.
The Poles drew goalless with Mexico in their inauguration game at the tournament in Qatar, and in their second match of the World Cup they won 2:0 against Saudi Arabia. This gives the Polish Eagles a total of four points and puts them in a very strong position before the last round of the group stage.
World Cup 2022. Group C table
After two rounds of meetings, Czesław Michniewicz’s side leads the field in Group C, as shown in the table below.
What must happen for Poland to qualify for the Last 16?
In the last round of matches in the group stage, which will be played on Wednesday, November 30, Poland will play Argentina, and Saudi Arabia will play Mexico. We considered all possible outcomes of the White and Red match to look at the scenarios of Poland reaching the knockout stages of the World Cup.
Scenario #1: Poland wins against Argentina.
A dream result that gives Poland a certain promotion from first place in the group and will probably avoid France in the last 16
Scenario No. 2: Poland draws with Argentina.
Such a result will also the White and Reds through to the last 16, who would finish the competition in the group with five points on their account. Regardless of the outcome in the second match, Michniewicz’s team would advance to the knockout stages. In the event of a victory for Mexico or a draw in the second meeting, the Poles would advance from first place.
Scenario #3: Poland loses to Argentina.
A possible defeat will complicate the situation of the White and Reds, who would have to look at what the teams of Mexico and Saudi Arabia will do. In the event that Poland loses to Albiceleste and Arabia beats Mexico, the Saudis and Argentina will qualify for the last 16.
A draw in the second leg or a win for Mexico will mean that the goal balance will send Poland through to the knockout stages. Thus, the White and Reds can not lose high and must count on the fact that in the second match the result will be 0:0 or 1:0 for El Tri.
