Robert Lewandowski won his first trophy with Barcelona. The “Catalan Pride” defeated Real Madrid 3-1 in great style and won the Spanish Super Cup. The captain of the Polish national team scored and had an assist.
Already in the first half, Blaugrana proved that they were clearly the better team that day. Xavi Hernandez’s men took the lead in the 34th minute of the game. Lewandowski’s pass was used by Gavi. The Barcelona midfielder went into free space and confidently defeated Thibault Courtois.
It was 2-0 just before the break. This time Lewandowski and Gavi switched roles. The Spaniard rushed down the left wing and played the ball into the penalty area to the approaching Pole. The 34-year-old shot the ball into the net from close range. Barcelona held a two-goal lead until the break. It is worth mentioning that in the first part of the game, Real’s players only fired one shot and it was an off-target shot.
It seemed that after the change of sides, Real would start to make up for losses. However, Carlo Ancelotti’s team had no way to break through the defense of Barcelona. In the 51st minute of the match it could have been 3:0, but a great chance for a goal was wasted by Ousmane Dembele.
In the end, however, Barcelona got their way and scored the third goal. Gavi assisted again and Pedri finished the action. The referee was still checking whether the 21-year-old was in an offside position. Ultimately, the hit was scored.
After the third goal, the pace of the game slowed down. Barcelona controlled the outcome and the course of the match. Real was looking for a goal of honor, but the “Royal” attacks lacked an idea. Ultimately, however, in one of the last actions of the match, the only goal for the team from Madrid was scored by Karim Benzema. Barcelona won 3-1 to claim their 14th Spanish Super Cup of the season.
