Jacek Jabłoński, the creative mind behind the Instagram account “Sztuczna Poland,” has embarked on a remarkable project using artificial intelligence to breathe new life into historical photographs from the Warsaw Uprising. Every year on August 1st, Poland commemorates the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, a significant event in the nation’s history. This day is marked by various events across the country, honoring both the living and the deceased participants of the uprising, with the climax being the “W” Hour at 5:00 PM.

Jabłoński has transformed iconic black-and-white photos from the Warsaw Uprising using advanced AI tools. These refreshed images, now in color, are showcased on his “Sztuczna Poland” Instagram profile. They provide a vivid portrayal not only of the residents of Warsaw during this tumultuous time but also of the city’s destruction.

Jabłoński explains his approach: “I used modern AI tools to give a new look to the well-known photos from the Warsaw Uprising. My goal was to make these images appear as contemporary as smartphone photos in terms of format, color, and depth. I wasn’t aiming for historical accuracy but rather to present them in a way that resonates with similar events happening in other parts of the world today.”
