The match concluded in just 92 minutes, with Hurkacz overwhelming Nadal 6:1, 6:3 on the clay court, traditionally Nadal’s strongest surface. This victory marks a significant milestone in Hurkacz’s career, especially notable given Nadal’s illustrious history at this venue, where he has clinched the title ten times previously.

The encounter began with a fiercely contested 30 minutes covering the initial three games, initially suggesting a prolonged battle. However, Hurkacz maintained his high level of play and effectiveness, repeatedly frustrating Nadal who was seen struggling visibly—yelling, hitting his racket against his leg, and striking the net post in agitation.

Hurkacz’s performance today was a continuation of his history of memorable matches, including his notable victory over Roger Federer in the 2021 Wimbledon quarterfinals and a valiant effort against Novak Djokovic at the same venue in 2023.

This match did not just signify a win in the records for Hurkacz but also showcased his potential to dominate on clay—a surface where Nadal has been nearly invincible. The Polish player’s ability to break Nadal’s serve early in both sets laid the foundation for his swift victory.

Nadal’s frustration was evident as he failed to find his rhythm, with Hurkacz capitalizing on every opportunity. The match’s intensity did not wane as Hurkacz continued to assert his dominance, culminating in a decisive break that left Nadal visibly disheartened.

This victory propels Hurkacz into the third round, where he will face Tomas Martin Etcheverry. The match against Etcheverry, who earlier defeated Thiago Seyboth Wild, is eagerly anticipated as Hurkacz seeks to continue his impressive run in the tournament.

As the tennis world reacts to this stunning upset, all eyes will be on Hurkacz as he advances, potentially altering the landscape of the clay court season.

Hubert Hurkacz, born in 1997 in Wroclaw, Poland, has been making waves in the tennis world with his powerful serve and calm demeanor on the court. Known for his strategic play and resilience, Hurkacz has steadily climbed the ATP rankings, establishing himself as a formidable opponent. His victory over Rafael Nadal in Rome not only adds a significant feather to his cap but also signals his readiness to take on the clay court challenges, traditionally dominated by players like Nadal.
