This year, the Tatra Mountains have witnessed an exceptionally early blossoming of crocuses, captivating visitors with their violet carpets spread across areas like the picturesque Chochołowska Clearing. This spectacular natural event draws numerous tourists to the region, eager to witness this beautiful phenomenon firsthand.

In light of the crocus season, TatraNational Park (TPN) calls on visitors to show deep respect for these protected flower species by adhering to the “Crocus Lovers’ Code.” This set of guidelines aims to foster responsible behavior in nature, encouraging admiration of the flowers without causing harm, thus preserving the natural beauty of the Tatra landscapes for future generations.

Key Provisions of the Code:

The TPN has highlighted essential rules from the code on their Facebook page, including:

  1. Admire and photograph crocuses from the tourist trail.
  2. Do not enter the meadows to avoid trampling the crocuses.
  3. Refrain from sitting or lying among the crocuses for photos.
  4. Leave the crocuses undisturbed; let photos be your souvenir.
  5. Avoid parking on crocuses.
  6. Take your trash with you.
  7. Use the toilets in shelters or portable toilets along the trail.
  8. Act as a guardian of the crocuses. If you see inappropriate behavior, react.

Preserving Nature’s Marvel:

The phenomenon of crocus blooming annually attracts nature lovers to the Tatras. In the past, there have been instances where tourists parked their cars directly on the meadows, damaging the precious plants. TPN’s emphasis on the “Crocus Lovers’ Code” aims to prevent such occurrences by educating visitors on responsible conduct.

Experts note that with favorable weather conditions and the absence of sudden temperature drops, the fascinating crocus bloom can be enjoyed until mid-April. While Chochołowska Valley showcases these floral carpets most strikingly, equally picturesque views can be admired in other Tatra locations, such as Kalatówki Clearing, the meadow under Kopieniec, and the Regle region meadows.

A Collective Effort:

On weekends, when tourist traffic peaks, volunteers will be present in the Tatra meadows to protect the crocuses from destruction and remind tourists about adhering to responsible behavior in nature.

As the Tatra Mountains burst into vibrant colors with the early blooming of crocuses, Tatra National Park’s initiative reminds us of the importance of enjoying nature’s wonders responsibly. The “Crocus Lovers’ Code” serves as a guide for preserving the delicate beauty of these flowers, ensuring that the splendor of the Tatras can be shared and cherished by all.
