“We agree that helping Ukraine remains the highest priority; Putin must lose this war, therefore we must support Ukrainians in the long term. We commend the Danish decision to provide F-16 fighters to Ukraine,” said Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski after meeting with the head of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During a recent meeting in Warsaw, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski and his Danish counterpart, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, agreed that supporting Ukraine remains a top priority. This consensus comes amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with both ministers emphasizing the need for a long-term commitment to Ukrainian support.

Sikorski acknowledged Denmark’s decision to provide F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, highlighting it as a significant step in aiding the Ukrainian forces. He also expressed appreciation for Denmark’s financial assistance to Ukraine.

The meeting also covered discussions on Eastern policy, security, including energy security, and the completion of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, marking a new chapter in Polish-Danish relations. Sikorski pointed out that Denmark plays a crucial role in the security of the Baltic Sea region, contributing to NATO’s Multinational Corps Northeast in Szczecin and participating in NATO’s presence in the Baltic countries.

“Russia’s attack on Ukraine is destabilizing the international environment. Unfortunately, the war is not ending. Sanctions against Russia are starting to work, but we are noticing an increasing militarization of the Russian economy, as well as a reorientation of its trade towards China and Moscow’s attempts to circumvent our sanctions. Therefore, the next necessary step is to introduce restrictive measures against the Russian arms industry, including companies from third countries that facilitate the evasion of sanctions,” the minister emphasized.

“We agreed with the minister that helping Ukraine remains the highest priority. Putin must lose this war, and we should support the Ukrainian armed forces in the long term and comprehensively,” Sikorski stressed. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed appreciation for Denmark’s decision to support Ukraine by providing F-16 fighters and financial assistance.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine was a key topic, with Sikorski noting its destabilizing effect on the international environment. He mentioned the increasing militarization of the Russian economy and its trade reorientation towards China. Sikorski called for further measures to restrict the Russian arms industry, including actions against third-party companies that facilitate sanction evasion.

This meeting underscores the growing international collaboration in response to the conflict in Ukraine, with countries like Poland and Denmark taking significant steps to support Ukraine and stabilize the region.
