In response to severe flooding in southern Poland, the British government has announced it will send a team of military engineers to assist in relief efforts. More than 10 soldiers from the British 517th Specialist Team Royal Engineers (STRE) have been deployed to the hardest-hit areas in Poland. Their mission is to work closely with local emergency services and the Polish military, providing immediate assistance in rebuilding damaged bridges, roads, and other essential infrastructure. The British soldiers will also help coordinate logistical efforts and assist in organizing relief operations.
The UK’s Defence Minister Vernon Coaker emphasized the importance of the alliance between the two countries. “We stand shoulder to shoulder with Poland as it battles the devastating effects of these floods. This mission underscores the United Kingdom’s commitment to collective defense and humanitarian cooperation, both of which are pillars of our NATO obligations.
