In 1776, drawn by the ideals of the American Revolution, Kościuszko sailed to the New World, offering his services to the cause of liberty against British rule.

Upon his arrival in America, Kościuszko was commissioned as a colonel in the Continental Army, where he quickly proved his mettle as an engineer.
