In the midst of the ongoing war in Ukraine, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko called his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda a “brainless.” The Belarusian president also threatened Poland with nuclear weapons, though the country has none.

Lukashenko warned Polish Armed Forces that meddling with Belarus would lead to a nuclear strike. “If Duda has no brains, the Polish military does, and they know that messing with Belarus means immediately getting a nuclear bomb,” Nexta tweeted citing the Belarusian President.

As Lukashenko puts it, Belarus is prepared to counter any threat from Poland and the Polish military understands how Belarus would react in such a situation.

Notably, the two European countries have long-standing border issues that have been further escalating since November 2021.

The president of Belarus has also cautioned NATO not to let the unrest in Eastern Europe worsen.

The president of Belarus has also cautioned NATO not to let the unrest in Eastern Europe worsen.

“It’s not a good idea to escalate things with Belarus because that would be an escalation with the Union States of Russia and Belarus. If they start to create problems… the response will be immediate,” Lukashenko stated as per Eurasia Times.

President Lukashenko also emphasized that Minsk is prepared to counter any threats coming from the West. He warned the West that they would not be able to “rescue themselves” if they chose to worsen the situation. Additionally, Lukashenko recalled his joint speech with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, where they proclaimed their intention to convert Belarusian Sukhoi aircraft into nuclear-capable aircraft and declared that everything was prepared for that. Furthermore, officials in Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia think that the migration wave is a result of a hybrid conflict between Belarus and Russia and the European Union (EU).

Poland-Belarus border crisis

It is important to note that when approximately 2,000 people became trapped in the border region between Poland and Belarus in November 2021, tensions inside the European Union’s borders increased. Since then, there have reportedly been a number of encounters involving border agents and migrants.

Meanwhile, the West has accused Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of using immigration as a tool to undermine the 27-nation bloc as payback for sanctions imposed on his oppressive government. The problem, which has seen a surge of refugees trying to enter Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia, has been blamed on Belarus numerous times, but Belarus has consistently denied this, despite the evidence.
