WARSAW, Poland – European Parliament President Roberta Metsola’s recent visit to Warsaw has sparked a renewed dialogue about Poland’s evolving role within the European Union. “I am delighted to be here now, as Poland returns to the heart of Europe and assumes its role as a leader,” Metsola remarked during her visit, underscoring a moment of significant transition and optimism for Poland’s position in the EU.

Metsola’s visit included a notable meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, followed by a speech in the Senate, where she eloquently addressed Poland’s contributions to Europe and the world. Her visit, tied to the upcoming European Parliament elections, highlights the critical juncture at which European politics currently stands.

In her address, Metsola evoked the memories of threof Poland’s most influential figures: Lech Wałęsa, the electrician from Gdańsk who played a pivotal role in dismantling the Iron Curtain, Karol Wojtyła, known globally as Pope John Paul II, who inspired millions with his messages of hope, peace, and reconciliation, and Marie Skłodowska-Curie, for winning two Nobel prizes for her contribution to since. These references not only honored Poland’s past but also framed its future within the broader narrative of European unity and resilience.

The Polish nation is a symbol of hope, passion and courage. This is a nation where a woman from Warsaw wins two Nobel Prizes, an electrician from Gdańsk helps tear down the Iron Curtain, and a priest from Krakow inspires the world -… pic.twitter.com/mi9zMTZb2R

The European Parliament President also touched upon the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, affirming the EU member states’ role as allies to Kyiv. “We know we can do this: support Ukraine while also protecting our internal markets,” Metsola stated, advocating for a balanced approach to addressing the crisis and its implications for Europe.

Addressing the contentious issue of EU climate policy, which has sparked protests among Polish farmers and others across Europe, Metsola acknowledged the necessity of finding solutions that consider food producers’ perspectives. Her commitment to seeking “an appropriate solution” to the dispute reflects an inclusive approach to policy-making.

In her Senate speech, Metsola lauded the Polish nation as a symbol of hope, passion, and courage, highlighting its significant contributions to science, freedom, and global culture. Her visit to Poland underscores the importance of acknowledging historical achievements while navigating contemporary challenges.

As Metsola concludes her visit with a trip to Gdańsk and an appearance on Polsat News’ “Dzień na Świecie,” her messages of solidarity, leadership, and unity resonate deeply. Her visit symbolizes not only Poland’s pivotal role in the European Union but also the enduring spirit of collaboration that defines the EU at its best.
