5-year-old stabbed to death on kindergarten field trip

A 5-year-old, brutally attacked in Poznan, has sadly died, according to Polish media. – A senior man assaulted one of the kindergarten children, striking him in the chest,” said Andrzej Borowiak, the spokesperson for the provincial police in Poznan. The 71-year-old attacker was apprehended by an off-duty police officer.

The website epoznan.pl reported that the incident occurred on Wednesday around 10 a.m. in the area of the intersection of Lukaszewicz and Karwowski streets in the Lazarz district of Poznan. “A group of preschoolers had gone out for a trip,” it said.

Stabbed 5-year-old has died

A five-year-old boy was taken to the hospital. As reported by media outlets, the child had to be resuscitated. – The boy was rushed to the hospital showing signs of life – he added.

After 12 p.m., Polish media revealed that the boy had passed away.

The Chief Director of Karol Jonscher Clinical Hospital in Poznań, Dr. Paweł Daszkiewicz, told reporters that a boy who sustained chest injuries tragically failed to survive the surgery.

  • After a brief chase, the attacker was apprehended by an off-duty policewoman from the city precinct. Observing the situation, she incapacitated the man. Another passerby assisted her by disarming the assailant of his knife, reported Borowiak.

    The 71-year-old was subsequently handed over to the officers who arrived at the scene.

    The perpetrator’s motives remain unclear. From the officer’s account, it seems that only one boy was targeted by the man, he said. The police have no indication that the attacker had any familial relation to the 5-year-old boy.

    The police have identified the assailant. He had no previous record.

    Examinations are ongoing, witnesses are being interviewed, and surveillance is being reviewed.

    Police: Disgraceful Assault

    The Polish Police commented on the dramatic events from Poznan on the X platform.

    “In Poznań, there was a disgraceful knife attack on a group of preschoolers who were on a walk with their caregivers. The perpetrator was arrested by a policewoman passing by the scene while off duty” – we read in the statement.
