The election banners that parliamentary candidates plastered all over Poland have a chance to be usefully repurposed after the campaign. The organizers of the action “Political Banner Saves Life” came up with the idea for them to end up on the front in Ukraine and assist the fighting soldiers.
According to regulations, election banners showcasing images of parliamentary candidates must be removed from the streets within 30 days following the election. Failure to comply with this rule may result in a fine ranging from 500 PLN to 5,000 PLN. As such, it’s incumbent on the candidates and election committees to ensure all remaining posters are duly cleaned up post-election.
The campaign organizers of “Political Banner Saves Lives” initiated a creative method of utilizing the massive volume of plastic banners produced for the campaign that otherwise would have been dumped in landfills. They plan to repurpose the collected banners, which are anticipated to be shipped to the front lines to aid Ukrainians.
Polish billboards can protect damaged houses, roofs, and windows. The soldiers can also use them to reinforce trenches.
Tomasz Szydlak from Kielce, Andrzej Wilk from Nowa Dęba, and Krzysztof Adamski from the Hope Association in Brzeszcze are the initiators of the action. They have remained steadfast in their support for the battling Ukrainians since the onset of the war.
“All electoral committees are urged to provide billboards. Ensuring that these banners are in pristine and undamaged condition is crucial. The ongoing campaign ‘Political Banner Saves Lives’ continues to unfold. We can arrange to collect the pre-prepared banners from the indicated address; it would immensely help if someone could contribute to fuel purchase for transportation,” Andrzej Wilk shared on Facebook.
Once the collection phase is complete, the organizers will personally travel to Ukraine and distribute the banners to those in need.
