Either we work together as Europe or we turn into a ghost ship. The attitude towards the Putin’s war is a real test to show that we really value democratic values – said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Monday in Paris.
The head of the Polish government on Monday was on a visit to Paris, where he participated in the conference of the Association of French Employers MEDEF in Paris. In his speech, Morawiecki argued that EU countries must “face all the challenges of modern age together”.
– First of all – a pandemic, then an economic crisis, then a brutal war in which Russia wants to crush Ukraine. And now the risk of an energy and food crisis is on the horizon. Here are the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse of our time – enumerated the Prime Minister.
“If we want to move forward, we need to change the paradigm of action,” he said. “Either we work together as Europe and unfurge our sails, or we turn into a ghost ship. For too long, the low price of Russian gas has been an important value for many countries. Not for France, but for many of our neighbors – said Morawiecki. Meanwhile, as he noted, “the real price of cheap gas today is Ukrainian blood.”
„Ostpolitik is a lost Politik”
“Europe has learned how risky it is to rely on unreliable partners, both in the energy sector and in many other areas. Germany, our common neighbor, sees perfectly well that its “Ostpolitik” (Germany’s East policy) has become a “lost politik” – said Morawiecki. He stressed that “energy is used to blackmail the whole continent, all of us.”
“If we want freedom, prosperity, we must change our dependence on Russia. That is why I am convinced that the attitude towards the war of Russia is a real test to show whether we really value democratic values – said the Prime Minister.
Another Vladimir, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, once said that the capitalists would sell them (Russian communist – ed.) a rope on which they would be hanged. Capitalists, that is, you. So don’t sell the rope to Mr. Putin. Because there is a risk that Mr. Putin, Russia and other bad people in this world will use it against us.”
